Expedition Everest Challenge to End in 2015

While RunDisney has not made an official announcement yet, it seems as though 2015 will be final run of the Expedition Everest Challenge.

As The Main Street Mouse reports, wording all over the event’s page seems to very clearly indicate that this is the last year for the event.

Phrases like “Going, going, gone! Don’t let this opportunity to participate in the final run of the Expedition Everest Challenge pass you by!” and “Get your bragging rights as one of the final runners who faced the Expedition Everest Challenge before it’s too late!” are impossible to miss in the race information.

This will probably mean it will sell out fairly quickly when registration opens in two weeks

As I have been planning on attending this even, I have my fingers crossed that I will be able to score an entry for myself and Hubby.

This begs a question: What will replace it? Since it takes place in Early May, could we see a Star Wars event to go along with Star Wars Weekends? Or will they create a new Animal Kingdom-Centric event, perhaps Avatar themed to go along with the opening of Avatar Land in 2017?

Update: Thanks to being an Annual Passholder I was able to register for the race today. I’m so excited to be running my first RunDisney event!

Will you be registering for this farewell run? What would you like them to replace the event with? Leave your thoughts in the comments!

  2. Um, not me. I’m trying to get into the NYC Marathon for 2015, but that’s a huge longshot. Also looking at the Santa Fe Thunder Half Marathon in September because I love going to New Mexico for any reason.

    Good luck to you.
